My Why: Home Inspector

I started my Home Inspection business so I could spend more time with my kids; Olivia, Ryan, Emma and Julie.

I needed something more flexible that I could control. Working for someone else at a 9 to 5 job wasn't working for me anymore. I wanted my kids to be proud of what I accomplished. Being a Home Inspector helps. 

My dad passed away when I was 12 so I didn't get to spend a lot of time with him. I want to be there for my kids as much as I can. I am involved in everything that they do. I also do it because I want my dad to be proud of me. 

I have always loved giraffes. They are such majestic creatures and there is no animal like them.

When I was a teenager I asked my mom for a pony for Christmas but didn't get one. The following year I asked for a giraffe for Christmas, as a joke. She got me a walking, talking Toys 'R' Us Geoffrey stuffed animal. Every Christmas after that I got some giraffe themed present. I got giraffe plastic figurines, giraffe ceramic table, giraffe African mask, giraffe key chain, giraffe picture frame, and much more.

My wife continued the tradition and got me a pair of giraffe onsie pajamas. I wear them every Halloween as my costume.

It has become a part of my life. Everyone knows I love giraffes.

I want a giraffe tattoo with my kids names in the legs. 

My dream is to go to Giraffe Manor in Kenya, Africa and go on a safari.

I wanted to use something I loved in my business to stand out among the crowd. Everyone knows me as the giraffe guy. That or the bad dad joke guy. 

I have worked at a bank for over 10 years and I needed a change. I felt that way after 5 years but I didn't know what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to own my own business. I have a bachelors degree in Marketing but never really used it.

In 2020, I was doing property inspections on the side to make some extra money. I was taking pictures of houses that were either vacant or for people behind on their mortgage. The guy I was working for got contracts from other banks. In September, he lost his contract to Putnam County where I was working. I went online looking for another property inspection company and came across home inspection. I wanted to know how to become a home inspector so I went down the rabbit hole and did the research. I figured I could become a home inspector. I did construction for a couple years in my 20's, I like how houses are built and I have always had on eye for pointing out things that are wrong.

The home inspection school started the following week so I had to convince my wife to spend the money. She said as long as I went through with it. I thought that the school would help me find a company to work for, they did not. I had to either find a company or start my own. So I decided to start my own Home Inspection Business in April of 2021. I never thought about starting a home inspection business, it sort of happened by accident.
